How to use this page
Every city on this list will collect a curbside pile from residents on city trash service, either on a fixed cycle or by appointment. The programs are cheap or free, and they are the right answer for a lot of piles. They also all share three limits: the pile has to be at the curb, it has to wait for the city’s date, and each program refuses a list of things, usually appliances, construction material, hazardous waste and tires. The sections below give the specifics for each city as published on the city’s page; the last section is the honest comparison with a private hauler like Haulo.
Mesa
The City of Mesa runs an on-request Bulk Item Pick-up for its solid-waste customers. It must be scheduled in advance; it starts at $31.00 per load for Mesa customers, a load being roughly 4′ × 8′ × 4′, with up to four loads per pickup. Not accepted: appliances, construction material, hazardous waste, tires, and single items over 60 lb.
Where Haulo fits: items still inside the house, appliances, remodel debris, and anything you need gone before the next available slot. If your pile is curbside-ready and inside the rules, the city program is usually the cheaper choice, and we will say so.

Gilbert
The Town of Gilbert collects bulk trash every five weeks (not the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas). One pile up to 10′ long × 5′ wide × 5′ high at the curb, out no earlier than the Saturday before your week and no later than 5 a.m. Monday. Not accepted: washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, TVs and construction debris. The town will collect up to two appliances for $16 during your bulk week, or $85 outside it.
Where Haulo fits: appliances outside the town’s appliance pickup, remodel debris, items inside the house or garage, and a pile that cannot wait five weeks or exceeds the size limit.

Chandler
The City of Chandler offers curbside bulk collection on request to residents on city trash service. A combination of the first four bulk pickups and Solid Waste Collection Center visits per calendar year is free; additional pickups are $43. Piles are limited to 4′ wide × 4′ high × 16′ long. Not accepted: building material, rock, gravel, dirt and tires.
Where Haulo fits: concrete, rock, dirt and remodel debris the program excludes, items carried out from inside, and a fifth pickup in a busy year.

Tempe
The City of Tempe collects bulk trash from residential customers every other month. Items go out by 6 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week and no earlier than 10 days before, up to 10 cubic yards. Not accepted: appliances with freon, tires, glass, mirrors, hazardous chemicals, car parts, dirt, rock, concrete and construction debris.
Where Haulo fits: refrigerators and other freon appliances, remodel debris, apartment and rental move-outs where the pile is upstairs rather than at the curb, and anything that cannot wait for the next two-month cycle.

Scottsdale
The City of Scottsdale runs a monthly brush and bulk collection for residents on city collection. Piles go out no sooner than three days before the Monday of your area’s week, no larger than 10′ long × 6′ wide × 4′ tall, with brush and bulk in two separate piles, limbs no longer than 6′ and under 12″ across. Not accepted: dirt, rock, sod, concrete, construction debris, auto parts and hazardous waste.
Where Haulo fits: concrete, rock and remodel debris, items carried out through a gate or down from a condo, and a pile that cannot wait for the area’s month.

Phoenix
The City of Phoenix gives residential customers four bulk trash collection opportunities a year, by appointment (online or by phone). One pile up to 10 cubic yards, within 5 feet of the curb, out by 5:30 a.m. on the appointment date and no more than 7 days ahead. Not accepted: household hazardous waste, tires, glass, appliances with refrigerant, construction material, concrete and trunks over 4 feet.
Where Haulo fits: appliances with refrigerant, concrete and remodel debris, items inside the house, and the weeks when the next appointment is too far out.

City program or private hauler?
Use the city program when all four are true: the pile is already at the curb or you can get it there, it is inside your city’s size limit, nothing on it is on the refused list, and it can wait for the city’s date. That describes a lot of yard clean-ups and the occasional couch, and the city will do it for free or for the fee above.
Call a hauler when any of those is false. The common cases we see: the items are still inside the house or garage, there is an appliance or remodel debris on the pile, the pile is bigger than the limit, or the house has to be empty by a date the city cannot hit. Haulo prices from your photos, confirms the number before loading, and takes the appliances, concrete, rock and debris every one of these programs excludes. Typical prices are here.
Common questions
Can I put a refrigerator out for bulk trash?
Not in Tempe or Phoenix, which refuse appliances with refrigerant, and not in Mesa, which refuses appliances outright. Gilbert collects up to two appliances for a fee. Chandler’s list of exclusions is about building material, rock, dirt and tires; check the city page for appliances before you set one out.
Does any city take construction debris in bulk trash?
No. All six programs refuse construction or building material. Concrete, drywall, lumber, tile and flooring need a private hauler or a dumpster.
How much does the city charge?
Mesa starts at $31.00 per load. Gilbert is included in service, with $16 for two appliances during your bulk week. Chandler gives four free pickups a year, then $43. Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix include the collection in residential service. All figures as published on 8 Sep 2026.
What if I miss my city’s pickup week?
Gilbert’s cycle is five weeks, Tempe’s two months, Scottsdale’s a month. Mesa, Chandler and Phoenix are by appointment. If the pile cannot wait, text photos to Haulo and we give you a price for the next day we are in your city, usually the same day for Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe.
