The hard no list
Transfer stations and landfills refuse these, our insurance does not cover carrying them, and several are illegal to dispose of outside a permitted program. No amount of bagging changes that.
- Gasoline, diesel, kerosene and other fuels

- Asbestos, lead-contaminated material and mold-remediation waste
- Medical or biohazard waste, including sharps
Household, business, cleanout, and project material.
Item types are grouped for clarity. Send photos before scheduling so Haulo can confirm acceptance, handling needs, and the complete scope.

The send-a-photo-first list
These are not refusals. They are things we confirm from a photo before the visit, because the answer depends on the item.
- Paint. We can usually take it. Send a photo of the cans so we can see how many and whether they are sealed.
- Car batteries, small electronics and e-waste. A photo tells us whether they can ride along or belong at a city drop-off.
- Refrigerators and freezers. Yes, we take them; they go to a facility that recovers the refrigerant. Empty the food first.
- Tires. Usually a handful is fine on a mixed load; a stack is a separate conversation.
- Heavy piles of concrete, block, rock or dirt. We take them, priced by weight rather than volume.
- Anything still connected. Gas ranges, dryers, water heaters and dishwashers should be shut off and disconnected before we arrive.
Where it goes instead, city by city
Every city in the East Valley and Phoenix runs a household-hazardous-waste program for residents on city trash service. The facts below are as each city publishes them, checked 10 Sep 2026; hours and rules change, so confirm on the city page before you drive over, and bring proof of residency.
Mesa
Household Hazardous Materials facility at 2412 N. Center St., Building 2, open Wednesday to Saturday mornings, for Mesa residents on the Green & Clean utility fee. Accepts paints and solvents, automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides and fertilizers, batteries and electronics, and runs a swap shop for usable paint and products. mesaaz.gov
Gilbert
Household Hazardous Waste facility at the Public Works yard, open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for Gilbert utility customers with an ID and a town utility bill. gilbertaz.gov
Chandler
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, by appointment, for Chandler residents paying for city solid-waste service, including apartment and townhome residents; material must come from the Chandler address on the utility bill. chandleraz.gov
Tempe
Household Products Collection Center at 1320 E. University Drive, for Tempe and Guadalupe residents with proof of residency. tempe.gov
Scottsdale
No drop-off site. Scottsdale collects household hazardous waste at your home by appointment, up to three collections a year at no charge and up to 20 gallons per appointment, for residential utility customers, plus an annual drop-off event. scottsdaleaz.gov
Phoenix
Household hazardous waste is collected by appointment through the city’s request form, and at periodic collection events. Bring your current city services bill and matching ID. Accepted items include automotive fluids (up to 5 gallons), vehicle batteries, electronics, small appliances, pool chemicals, pesticides, household paint and tires. phoenix.gov

Common questions
Will you take paint?
Usually, yes. Send a photo of the cans first. Sealed latex and small quantities of oil-based paint ride along; a garage full of open cans is a different job and may belong at your city’s program instead.
Can you take a propane tank if it is empty?
No. Cylinders are refused at the transfer station whether or not they read empty. Swap it at an exchange or take it to your city program where accepted.
Do you take TVs and computers?
Yes, with a photo first so we know the count. Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe and Phoenix also accept electronics in their household programs if you would rather drop them off.
What about a fridge with food still in it?
We take the fridge; please empty the food. A unit that has been off for weeks should be taped shut and mentioned in your text.
